Summer is slowly slipping away, which can only mean one thing: It’s time to start shopping for the best fall sweaters. Pumpkin spice and infinity scarves aside, brands are already stocking their shelves with the coziest fall-ready knits, and they’re going fast. (We’re about ready to pull on a sweater and some fall boots and go full Taylor Swift, no matter what the calendar says.)
This season our favorite retailers are going all-in on bold patterns and graphics. Brands such as Rabanne, Ulla Johnson, and Helmut Lang sent eye-catching knits down their fall-winter runways, playing with heritage pieces like plaid and Fair Isle sweaters. Coach, Batsheva, and others went in a bolder direction, weaving images and words directly into knits in a fresh update to themed sweaters.
On the flip side, classic knitwear silhouettes remain; cozy cardigans reigned supreme at labels like Bally and Eckhaus Latta, while Victoria Beckham showed a chunky-knit sweater vest that we need in our closets immediately. (I found a similar option on Amazon, by the way.) Oversized sweaters are also making a major comeback this year.
Whether you’re planning ahead or ready to embrace sweater weather early, these are the best fall sweaters of 2024, according to style editors.
